Supported by 45 years of professional excellence, Mr. Henry currently serves as the executive director of the Flint Institute of the Arts, which has become the second largest museum in Michigan under his leadership earning several Institutional awards including being cited as an American Treasure by the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities; The Institutional Achievement Award from the Michigan Museums Association, the Non-Profit Excellence Award from the Resource Center, the Hispanic Heritage Arts/Cultural Awareness Award and the 2007 Governor's Award for Art and Culture.
Mr. Henry began his career as General Curator of the Columbus Museum of Art in Columbus, Georgia. He later joined the Mississippi Museum of Art as Director of Collections and Exhibitions. And from 1983-1996, he served as Director of the Vero Beach Museum of Art in Florida.
As an expert in his field, Mr. Henry initially earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of South Carolina. He later obtained a Master of Fine Arts in art history from The University of Mississippi. Mr. Henry is affiliated with the American Alliance of Museums and a member of the Association of Art Museum Directors.
Throughout his career, Mr. Henry has authored or contributed to a number of publications, including Best of Both Worlds; Human and Divine Realms in Classical Art; American Art at the Flint Institute of Arts; To Be or Not To Be: 400 Years of Vanitas Painting; and Pure Abstraction: He has served on the Director's Advisory Council for the national Trustees Association; the Advisory Board of the Baker College Center for Graduate Studies; the Board of Trustee of the Marshall M. Frederick's Sculpture Museum; and serves on the Flint Cultural Center Academy Board of Education. Due to his outstanding accomplishments, he has been presented with the Chamber of Commerce President's Award and was named Man of the Year by the American Arab Heritage Council. Looking toward the future, Mr. Henry intends to continue his work in the museum field.
