Prior to establishing his own firm, he served as a partner in litigation practice for Berkowitz Feldmiller Stanton Brandt Williams & Shaw LLP from 1997 to 2005 and chair of the products practice group at Stinson, Mag & Fizzell, now known as Stinson Leonard Street LLP, from 1993 to 1995, having been a partner with the firm from 1983 to 1996. From 1969 to 1981, he was a partner with Weeks, Thomas & Lysaught, also serving as chair of the executive committee and on the board of directors from 1981 to 1982. Earlier in his career, Mr. Stanton was an associate with Stanley, Schroeder, Weeks, Thomas & Lysaught from 1963 to 1968.
Mr. Stanton began his career as a student at the University of Kansas, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1960. He continued his studies with the university, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1963. Mr. Stanton has been admitted to practice law in the state of Kansas, as well as before the United States District Court for the District of Kansas, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Mr. Stanton has been an active leader in his community. A fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the American College of Trial Lawyers, he is a member of the Tenth Circuit Historical Society, the Earl E. O'Conner Inn of Court, the Kansas Association of Defense Counsel, and the Johnson County Bar Association. He is the president of both the Johnson County Bar Foundation and the Kansas Bar Association. He has also been affiliated with the Defense Research Institute, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the University of Kansas Alumni Association, the University of Kansas School of Law Alumni Association, and Phi Delta Phi.
Throughout his career, Mr. Stanton has been recognized for his achievements. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
