Mr. Matsumoto has successfully balanced two parallel careers. He is currently a visual artist, while his other career was as a senior materials scientist with General Electric from 1994 to 2016. Prior to that he was a Senior Research Scientist at Hercules, Inc. and New Product Manager at Ceramatec, Inc.
Mr. Matsumoto obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1973 from Seattle University, followed by a Master of Science in Ceramics in 1975 from the University of Washington. He holds over 20 patents in his field, and has published numerous technical papers and book chapters.
In his parallel art career, he has been in over 200 exhibitions throughout the United States and in England. His works are in major museums, including three at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. In addition, he was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship by the Delaware Division of Art.
A member of the American Recorder Society, Mr. Matsumoto has been president of the local chapter for over 15 years. He plays and performs on recorders from the soprano down to the great bass.
