With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Strauss began his career as a computer programmer at West Chester University of Pennsylvania from 1970 to 1974, a computer programmer for the General Electric Corporation from 1974 to 1975, and an instructor at the Pennsylvania State University from 1975 to 1980. He was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Michigan from 1980 to 1983, an instructor at the Michigan Technical Institute from 1982 to 1985, and an assistant research scientist at the University of Michigan from 1983 to 1986. Dr. Strauss held the post of assistant professor at the University of Arizona from 1986 to 1992, and associate professor from 1992 to 1993. In 1993, he joined Texas Tech University as associate professor from 1993 to 2007 and professor from 2007 to 2016. Dr. Strauss retired in 2016.
Dr. Richard E. Strauss initially pursued an education at the Institute of Computer Management, where he obtained a diploma in computer programming in 1970. He continued his studies at the West Chester University of Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in biology in 1974. He concluded his academic efforts at the Pennsylvania State University, graduating with a Master of Science in ecology in 1977 and a Doctor of Philosophy in ecology in 1980.
Throughout his career, Dr. Strauss has been celebrated for his contributions. He has accepted a President's Excellence in Teaching Award, a Recognition of Teaching Excellence from the Texas Tech University Teaching Academy, and the Texas Tech University Association of Biologists Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Advising. He was further inducted to the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society and the Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society. Likewise, Dr. Strauss has been featured in numerous publications, including Who's Who in America.
