Prior to this role, she worked as a reading specialist for Hughes Intermediate School from 1983 to 1998, the Bush Hill Elementary School from 1981 to 1983, and the Cameron Elementary School from 1978 to 1981. She further found success as a reading teacher, and reading and career education consultant for Montgomery County Schools from 1969 to 1978, a teacher with Beverly Farms Elementary School from 1967 to 1969 and a reading specialist with Thomas Jefferson Junior High School from 1966 to 1967. Earlier in her career, Ms. Dozier served as a teacher at William Byrd High School from 1964 to 1966.
Ms. Dozier initially pursued an education at Mars Hill University, where she received an Associate of Arts in literature, arts, and drama in 1962. She continued her studies at Radford College, earning a Bachelor of Science in education in 1964. She concluded her academic efforts at University of Virginia, graduating with a Master of Education in reading in 1967 and completing postgraduate coursework from 1968 to 1989. Ms. Dozier is additionally certified in elementary and middle school education, as well as in reading gifted education.
A respected voice in her community, Ms. Dozier has been an active leader in her areas of interest. She is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Education Association, the International Reading Association, the Virginia Reading Association, and the Virginia Secondary Reading Council. Ms. Dozier has also been affiliated with the Greater Washington Reading Council, the Fairfax Education Association, Fairfax County Reading Teachers, the Virginia Education Association, the Association of Children with Learning Disabilities, and the Middle School Association.
Throughout her career, Ms. Dozier has been celebrated for her achievements. She has been featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who of American Women. Moreover, Ms. Dozier accepted the Nila Banton Award from the International Reading Association in 1992, and was recognized as an exemplary nominee for "Teacher of the Year" by the Greater Washington Reading Council.
