His most recent book, "The New Parkinson's Disease Treatment Book," is also directed to Parkinson patients. He co¬edited "Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders: Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines for the Practicing Physician," published by Humana Press.
A board-certified neurologist through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Ahlskog holds a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University, a Doctor of Philosophy from Princeton University and a Doctor of Medicine from Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. His academic career was interrupted by two years of service as an enlisted man in the U.S. Army, discharged with the rank of Specialist -5th Class. His post-medical school training included two years of internal medicine training at the University of Chicago followed by a 3-year Neurology residency at the Mayo Clinic.
In light of his professional accomplishments, Dr. Ahlskog has been recognized several times, earning a Teacher of the Year in Neurology Award through the Mayo Fellows Association; a Distinguished Clinician Award through the Mayo Clinic; the Fred Springer Award from the American Parkinson's Disease Association; and the Karis Award, which is given for compassionate medical care by a Mayo Clinic physician.
