After earning a bachelor's degree from Morgan State College in 1968, Dr. Kane later obtained a Master of Science from SUNY Oneonta in 1974 and a Doctor of Philosophy in sociology from the University at Albany in 1997. Interested in pursuing a career that would allow for social contribution, she began her career as a caseworker for the New York City Department of Social Services from 1968 to 1970. As her career continued, Dr. Kane excelled as a counselor with the SUNY Oneonta, a coordinator of counseling and academic advisement, a member of adjunct faculty at the University at Albany and an associate in higher education opportunity with the New York State Department of Education.
Presently, Dr. Kane serves as a higher education coach and a consultant with her own company, Kane Consulting and Coaching, LLC, which she established in 2009. Demonstrating unmatched occupational focus, she was a member of the Hypertension Task Force on Target Populations' Youth Services Strategic Planning Committee from 1985 to 1991. She has also been associated as the chairman for the Albany chapter of the youth committee for the American Red Cross, among other leadership positions with the same organization. Dr. Kane has contributed to the Albany chapter of Big Brothers and Big Sisters from 1977 to 1980.
Highly accomplished in her field, Dr. Kane has accepted numerous awards, including the Marconi Medal as presented by the Technical Careers Institute in 2010. She also earned a scholarship from the Grand Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta in 1980 as well as other recognitions from this organization. Her written works include "A Real Whole Lot: A World War II Soldier's Love Letters to his Wife" and "Step into your Vision 2.0." She maintains memberships with an array of professional organizations, including New York State Coordinator for Social Action, the American Sociological Association and the Association of Black Women in Higher Education, for which she was president from 1978 to 1981. Dr. Kane has also been affiliated with such groups as the New York State Association of Non-White Concerns in Personnel & Guidance, the Black Professional Women's Network and the American Council on Education, often serving in administrative positions. She has been an active member of the Albany, New York Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, serving as elected and appointed President from 1983-1985 and 1997-2001, among other offices.
