Considering the highlight of his career to be helping multiple authors bring their works to the forefront of contemporary literature, he has exhibited great passion for his career. After graduating from Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1958, he served as a product manager for Simon & Schuster in New York City from 1960 to 1965. Thereafter, Mr. Quinson built his career as an illustrious publisher, working in that capacity for Golden Press, a division of Western Publishing, until 1970.
From 1970 to 1982, Mr. Quinson subsequently excelled as the president and sat on the board of directors of Larousse & Company, Inc. Following these appointments, he held the post of president of the trade and reference division of Macmillan Publishers from 1982 to 1988. Most recently, Mr. Quinson found success as the president and the chief executive officer of Henry Holt & Company, Inc., from 1988 until his retirement in 1996.
Since his departure from the field of publishing, Mr. Quinson has honed his skills as a talented painter. Notably for his exquisite work, he has had his art showcased across New England, including in the National Academy of Art, the Century Association, the New Marlborough (MA) Meeting House, the Norfolk Library, and the Frost Place. For his exceptional achievements in the art world, he was presented with the Reba Paul Prize in 2009 and 2012. Likewise, Mr. Quinson was recognized as a chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et Lettres in France.
Alongside his primary career endeavors, Mr. Quinson contributed as the chairman of the board of directors for the National Book Foundation in the mid-1990s, having also held the positions of the treasurer and the vice chairman of Columbia University Press until 2003. He has since maintained involvement on the national council of Graywolf Press since 2005, having previously been active as the chairman of the national council and on the board of directors. Locally involved in his community, he has also been appointed to the board of directors of multiple organizations, including the Rye Art Center, the Northside Center for Child Development, the 1115 Fifth Avenue Corporation, the Museum of the City of New York, the Interlaken Center for the Arts, and the Manhattan Theater Club. A founding member of the Barrington Stage Company, Mr. Quinson has also flourished as a trustee of the Leopold Schepp Foundation since 2001 and the PEN American Center from 2003 to 2007.
In an effort to remain aware of developments within the publishing industry and his community, Mr. Quinson has been affiliated with the Association of American Publishers, the Country Club of Pittsfield, the River Club, and the Publishers' Lunch Club, where he served as president in the early 1990s. Since 1990, he has also been a member of the Century Association. Notably, Mr. Quinson has been featured in myriad editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
Married to Mary Ann Goodman since 1980, Mr. Quinson is a native of Norwich, CT, and the proud father of three children and four step-children. He has also welcomed five wonderful granddaughters and seven grandsons into his family. Additionally, Mr. Quinson completed service in the United States Marine Corps upon his honorable discharge in 1968.
