Prior to his current role, he worked as a faculty associate with the University of Texas from 1966 to 1967. Likewise, he served as a music consultant with Harlandale Independent School District from 1960 to 1963. Earlier in his career, Dr. Martin found success as a teacher with Harlandale Independent School District from 1955 to 1960.
Dr. Martin began his career as a student at Our Lade of the Lake, where he received a Bachelor of Music in 1953. He continued his studies at the University of Arizona, earning a Master of Music in 1955. After obtaining some experience in the field, Dr. Martin concluded his academic efforts at the University of Texas, graduating with a Doctor of Music Arts in 1973.
A respected voice in his community, Dr. Martin has been active with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the Music Educators Conference, the Texas Music Educators Association, the College Music Society, Pi Kappa Alpha, Phi Mu Alpha. The author of "Sharing Music," he has contributed articles to professional journals and performed as a pianist and conductor for recitals and international tours. Dr. Martin formerly contributed as the minister of music for the University Baptist Church and he has remained involvement in supply-music ministry for Baptist churches in West Texas. Throughout his career, Dr. Martin has been featured in numerous publications, including Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
