Joseph Keith Unekis is the recipient of the William L. Stamey Award for Undergraduate Teaching from Kansas State University.

With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Unekis most recently served as an associate professor at Kansas State University from 1984 until attaining emeritus status in 2012, having been an assistant professor of political science from 1977 to 1984. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was a computer systems analyst with Indiana University Bloomington from 1967 to 1969. Earlier in his career, he served as a manager trainee and systems analyst with A.E. Stanley Manufacturing Company in Decatur, IL, from 1964 to 1967.
Dr. Unekis began his career as a student at Eastern Illinois University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in economics in 1963. He then joined Indiana University, completing a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in political science in 1972 and 1977, respectively. He later returned to his studies at the Air War College, receiving a diploma in 1986. Notably, he was one of 13 reservists to attend the school, which he cites as a career highlight. He is also a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Unekis has been an active leader in his community. A member of the American Political Science Association, he has authored and co-authored a number of texts and contributed articles to professional journals. The co-author of "Congressional Committee Politics" in 1984, he is also the author of "People, Problems and Power: A Concise Introduction to American Politics," which is currently in its fifth edition.
Throughout his career, Dr. Unekis has been recognized for his contributions with awards and accolades. The recipient of the William L. Stamey Award for Undergraduate Teaching from Kansas State University, he has been featured in numerous honors publications, including the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.
