An accomplished listee, Richard Pendleton celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Supported by 60 years of practiced industry experience, Dr. Pendleton has been designated as a professor emeritus of mechanical engineering with the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, having previously served as a Full Professor. Additionally, he found success as a consultant for others in regards to general stress analysis. At the beginning of his career, he excelled with the Socony Mobil Oil Company as a junior production engineer and the University of Missouri as an instructor of engineering mechanics. One of the most impactful moments of his career was when one of his students was killed in a car crash; the man's wife came to live with Dr. Pendleton and his family, which in turn motivated him to take additional interest in working with foreign students.
A registered professional engineer, Dr. Pendleton initially pursued an education at the Missouri School of Mines, earning a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science. He later graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Missouri. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Pendleton is affiliated with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Engineering Education, the British Society of Strain Management and the Society of Experimental Mechanics.
With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Pendleton invented a number of breakthrough products, including a walker that can be used on stairs and a rotating knee brace. He also developed various devices for the disabled while working with the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of America. For his professional achievements, he was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in the Midwest in 1989. Looking toward the future, Dr. Pendleton intends to continue parlaying his knowledge of the field to others in his role as professor emeritus.
