Initially studying at the Wingate Institute for Physical Education and Sports Sciences in Israel, Dr. Inbar later obtained a Bachelor of Science in physical education and a Master of Science in exercise physiology with distinction at New York University. He concluded his studies with a Doctor of Philosophy in applied physiology at Columbia University.
Dr. Inbar notably completed service in the Israel Defense Forces as a lieutenant in the legendary Shaked commando unit.
Dr. Inbar started his academic career working in the department of research and sports medicine at the Wingate Institute for Physical Education and Sports Sciences in 1973 following the completion of his Doctorate studies at Columbia University in NYC, USA. He later held the posts of the founder and the head of the Exercise Medicine Clinic at the MOR Institute for Medical Data in Ramat-Gan, Israel between 1985 and 1991. Following these appointments, Dr. Inbar was invited to establish a new exercise medicine clinic at the Links Clinic in Edmonton, Canada (1991-1995), before returning to the Wingate Institute for additional 15 years as a staff member, a senior lecturer and a researcher in exercise physiology until his retirement in 2010.
Before his retirement, Dr. Inbar also found success as the founder and the director of the Exercise Medicine Clinic in the Israeli Police Medical Center. He then contributed to the German ZAN Medical Equipment Company as the company's scientific adviser (2004-2005). During his work with the ZAN Corporation, he developed a unique interpretation module for Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), which has been embedded in hundreds of metabolic systems and used for Cardiopulmonary Exercise Tests interpretation throughout the world over the past 13 years. Following his retirement in 2010, Dr. Inbar maintained involvement in the establishment, management, and teaching of a new Master's degree program in physical education and exercise sciences at Givat-Washington Academic College of Education.

Dr. Inbar Major contributions to the field of exercise physiology were, together with the late Dr. Oded Bar-Or, the detection of the trigger causing exercise-induced asthma (EIA), the development of the Wingate Anaerobic Test (WAnT) and the creation of universal reference values for all CPET variables. Dr. Inbar was also active in the research related to body heat regulation during exercise in children. He is currently partaking in the development of a computer-aided module for the interpretation of CPET results.
To date, Dr. Omri Inbar has authored more than 120 articles for scientific journals worldwide, as well as chapters in approximately 20 textbooks and encyclopedias, both in Hebrew and English. He has also been published in four textbooks in the field of exercise physiology. Dr. Inbar has presented at more than 150 scientific conferences and has spoken at more than 100 invited lectures worldwide.
Dr. Inbar is an elected fellow and associate member of the American College of Sports Medicine. He is also a member of several other professional organizations, including the American Physiological Society, the Israeli Ergonomics Society, and the Canadian Association of Sports Sciences, among others. A fellow of the SUNY Downstate Medical Center between 1977 and 1979, Dr. Inbar has been cited in several editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
