ATLANTA, GA, February 13, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Miriam Strickman Levitas with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Levitas celebrates many years of experience in her professional and volunteer network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her multiple fields of endeavor. With her multi-faceted background, Ms. Levitas was the founding administrator of the Atlanta Stanley H. Kaplan Educational Center and was instrumental in training administrators in the South/Southeast centers. She facilitated getting the National Medical Board Training into Morehouse Medical School. As an interior designer and member of National Home Fashions League, Miriam was featured in the AJC for her innovative design of a functioning living room/master bedroom space as part of a major rehab project in Atlanta. As a designer of apparel and accessories, MSL Originals and Classic O's Sunglasses were born. With more than 40 years of cumulative membership in the National Association of Realtors as a Realtor Associate and Condominium Specialist with Philip White Properties, Inc., Sotheby's International Realty and Coldwell Banker, she received the status of Realtor Emeritus. She is the former owner of National Travel Services, International Destinations and Levitas Services, Inc.
In 1989, Ms. Levitas launched her career in television as a writer, producer, and host of "At Your Service", a community service program for cable television showcasing some of Atlanta's Community Service Agencies for information and educational purposes. Notably, The Center for Visually Impaired, The Georgia Radio Reading Service, Jewish Family and Career Services and Scottish Rite Children's Hospital Critical Care Services helicopter transport. Her groundbreaking program, "Intergenerational Relationships", along with her community service agency programming, were firsts to be broadcast in Georgia. While continuing her focus on intergenerational relationships, she was a producer and moderator for the "Rap-The-Gap" workshop for The Georgia Gerontology Conference and wrote "A Casual Presence," an intergenerational program that was earmarked for implementation into public schools to enhance the family unit and to specifically address bullying, truancy and delinquency.
In addition, Ms. Levitas co-wrote, with her husband, Dr. Theodore C. Levitas, and produced "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Bimah," "Breakfast with The Mittlemans," and "A Star Studded Event." In addition, she produced a one-night only benefit performance of the New York production of Golda's Balcony, performed at the legendary Rialto Theater in Atlanta and co-wrote, with her husband, lyrics for music performed at fundraising events for Hadassah and the Bremen Jewish Museum. She created and orchestrated a number of fundraisers for Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in conjunction with Neiman Marcus, Atlanta Magazine and Food and Wine Magazine entitled "The Most Elegant Tea at the Ritz" and "Who's Bringing In The Great Chefs." In addition to her production work, her on-camera interviews aired on Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters with Art Linkletter, Elliott Roosevelt, Celestine Sibley, Roy Blount, Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld, Chefs Larry Forgione, Edna Lewis and Paul Prudhomme. She was also an interviewer for the TV show "The Talk of the Town" and a writer and host for the radio show "Kitchen Kapers," providing programming for audiences with visual impairments.
Ms. Levitas attended Temple University on a four-year Board of Education Music Scholarship for piano, minoring in Elementary Education. She performed with the Frankford Symphony and Philadelphia Youth Orchestra as well as appearing on the Paul Whiteman Show at Radio City Music Hall. Her conducting debut was with the world-renowned Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on July 4, 1992, when she conducted "The Salute to America" by Morton Gould. Additional studies at the University of Colorado in Elementary Education and Music Criticism at UCLA took place while living in Denver Colorado and Palos Verdes California. Her Interior Design Certification was obtained through La Salle Extension University. She earned certification in Television Production from People TV in Atlanta, Georgia and concluded her studies at Georgia State University in 1988 with a certification in Gerontology and Community Service.
Ms. Levitas has been affiliated with numerous professional organizations. She is a member of the National Association of Realtors and the Georgia Board of Realtors, a Charter Member of the National Museum of American Jewish History and The National Museum of Women in the Arts, a member of the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, The High Museum of Art, The Breman Jewish Museum and The Atlanta Historical Society. She is a member of the Atlanta Film Festival 365, the Alliance for Women in Media, Women in Film and Television Atlanta and International Furnishings and Design Association. Ms. Levitas is a member of the Georgia Gerontology Society, B'nai Brith International and is a Life Member of the National Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah and Brandeis University National Women's Committee. She served on the Boards of Jewish Family and Career Services, Jewish Educational Loan Fund, Ahavath Achim Synagogue and Brevard Music Center.
Additionally, Ms. Levitas served two terms as the president of Ahavath Achim Sisterhood from 1977 to 1979 and from 1996 to 1998. During her service in this role, she produced the first evening donor event written by Dr. Levitas entitled "A Tsouris Line" and then created the first City-Wide Sisterhood Symposium which explored health issues many women faced in the 1990s. She designed the distinguished logo that defines Ahavath Achim Sisterhood: "A Legacy from Our Four Matriarchs" which continues to be the face of Ahavath Achim Sisterhood today. Her published articles include "Linking the Generations", "Building Bridges for Today's Children", "It's All About Breasts", "Attitudes: Defining Who We Are." Her work in progress is "Non Exempt: The Story of Beauty and the Breast", a documentary film about women, breasts and the stunning reality of how breast cancer has been woven into the tapestry of women's lives throughout history.
Throughout her career, Ms. Levitas has been recognized for her accomplishments. She was named a Woman of Achievement by the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. She received the State of Israel Bonds Scroll of Honor and the Israel Solidarity Award. The name of Ms. Miriam S. Levitas was placed on the Wall of Tolerance, as a Founding Member, by the National Campaign for Tolerance. In addition, she has been featured in numerous publications, including Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America (where she and her husband, Dr. Theodore C. Levitas, who passed away on September 15, 2016, were listed on the same page in 2014), Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who of American Inventors.
