Mr. Weathers is a retired divisional customer service supervisor for Centel Electric in Great Bend, KS. Hired by the utility company in 1960 as a serviceman, he was promoted to assistant to the divisional superintendent in 1966, where he spent 11 years. He was later promoted a second time in 1977 to his most recent position, where he remained until retirement. Prior to his tenure with Centel Electric, Mr. Weathers worked for a mobile home company.
A member of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce, where he served as former president, the Ambassadors Club and Kiwanis International, Mr. Weathers has also been active with numerous other organizations over the years as well. He served on the board of directors of the Great Bend Economic Development Commission, was vice chair and council commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America, and served as a representative of the 4-H Clubs of America. He has been on the board of directors of the Pawnee Valley Scout Museum in Larned, KS, since 1987. Honored by the Kansas 4-H of Great Bend with an Alumni Award in 1971, Mr. Weathers also received a Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of America in 1984.
Mr. Weathers studied at Kansas State University from 1951 to 1952. He then served active duty in the military and was in the Reserves between 1952 and 1987. While in the Reserves, he was honored to march with his company in President Dwight D. Eisenhower's funeral procession.
Married to the late Juanita Eve Richter for more than 60 years, Mr. Weathers has two children, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In his free time, Mr. Weathers enjoys woodworking.
