For nearly 35 years, Dr. Vail excelled in the field of physics through his work with the Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico and the Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts, beginning his career in 1965 and ultimately retiring in 1999. Throughout the duration of his career, he maintained responsibility for the technical integrity of the three United States directed-energy programs. He also served on a number of international panels, including the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Four Power HPM Panel in Gramat, France, from 1990 to 1994. In his spare time, has also given back to the New Mexico Council of Independent College and Universities as secretary since 1991.
A member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Dr. Vail holds a Bachelor of Science in physics and nuclear science and a Doctor of Philosophy in physics from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Later on in his career, he received a Certificate of Advanced Study in humanities from Harvard University, a Master of Arts in philosophy from the University of New Mexico, and a Master of Science in computer science from Aspen University.
In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Vail has maintained affiliation with the American Physical Society and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, where he is a senior member. In light of his excellence in the field, he was named a Companion Member through The Brothers of The Good Shepherd and received a featured in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the West. Looking toward the future, Dr. Vail intends to continue traveling around the world.
