Over the years, he gained valuable expertise in similar positions with the University of Sussex in England, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Oregon State University. At the inception of his career, he served as a volunteer with the Peace Corps in Panama and as a technician with the School of Medicine at the University of Washington. A member of Phi Kappa Phi, Dr. Bishop holds a Bachelor of Science from Washington State University, and a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy from Oregon State University. In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, he maintains affiliation with the American Society for Microbiology. In his spare time, he has acted as a Spanish interpreter for a number of entities and volunteers with his local food bank. Throughout his tenure, he has also contributed myriad articles to professional journals in his area of expertise.
In light of his excellence in the field, Dr. Bishop was recognized with the Scientist of the Year Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1982, through which he's also earned a plethora of grants. Additionally, professional publications such as Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the South and Southwest have also honored him for his work. In the coming years, Dr. Bishop intends to continue enjoying his retirement.
