Richard Williamson has been recognized as a fellow of the National Science Foundation and the Atomic Energy Commission.

With more than 30 years of professional experience, Mr. Williamson most recently worked as the deputy executive director of the United States Energy Association from 1995 to 1999. Prior to obtaining this role, he excelled with United States Department of Energy as the deputy assistant secretary for international affairs from 1984 to 1994, the director of policy development from 1980 to 1984 and the director of program analysis from 1977 to 1980. Previously, he served as the assistant director of energy analysis for the United States Energy Research and Development Administration from 1975 to 1977 as well as the chief of energy systems analysis for the Atomic Energy Commission from 1972 to 1975. Earlier in his career, Mr. Williamson held the position of an instructor for North Carolina State University from 1968 to 1972.
Mr. Williamson initially pursued an education as a student at North Carolina State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in physics in 1962. He continued his studies with a Master of Science in nuclear engineering in 1970, also at North Carolina State University. Mr. Williamson concluded his academic efforts at North Carolina State University in 1972, completing postgraduate coursework.
A respected voice in his industry, Mr. Williamson has been active with a number of organizations in his community. He is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference for the Retired Football Officials Association, Sigma Alpha Mu, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Sigma Pi Sigma, and Pi Mu Epsilon. A contributor of articles for professional journals, Mr. Williamson has also authored and edited books in relation to his areas of interest.
Throughout his career, Mr. Williamson has been celebrated for his achievements. He has been recognized as a fellow of the National Science Foundation and the Atomic Energy Commission, and Sigma Alpha Mu presented him a Distinguished Service Award. The recipient of an Outstanding Alumnus Award from the International Fraternity Council and North Carolina State University, Mr. Williamson also accepted a Presidential Rank Award from the United States Department of Energy and an Atlantic Coast Conference Service to Football Officiating Award.
