Currently designated as the Myra Steele professor emeritus of mathematics at Grinnell College, Dr. Adelberg has excelled on the campus of this esteemed academic institution for 57 years. During his tenure on the faculty, he also served as the chair of the mathematics department, chair of the faculty, and chair of the science division. Prior to coming to Grinnell College, Dr. Adelberg taught at Columbia University between 1959 and 1962. He has also been a visiting professor at several institutions, including the Ohio State University and the University of Melbourne in Australia. A visiting scholar at the University of Chicago and Harvard University, Dr. Adelberg was briefly active in the field of computers as a programmer for IBM in 1956.
Furthermore, Dr. Adelberg has found much success with his written works. Published in many local and international journals, Dr. Adelberg co-authored the article "Bounds of Divided Universal Bernoulli Numbers and Universal Kummer Congruences" with S. Wong and W. Ren in the Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society. His most recent publication is "Ap-adic approach to Sterling numbers via higher order Bernoulli numbers," which appeared in the Nov. 2018 issue of the International Journal of Number Theory. Dr. Adelberg also served as a referee for The American Mathematical Monthly, Discrete Mathematics, The Fibonacci Quarterly and The Journal of Number Theory, and as a reviewer for Mathematical Reviews.
Dr. Adelberg initially earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics, summa cum laude with distinction, at Columbia College in 1956. He continued his studies with a Master of Arts in mathematics at Princeton University in 1959. Years later, Dr. Adelberg concluded his academic efforts at Princeton University, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics in 1996.
An expert in mathematics, Dr. Adelberg's major research interests include number theory, algebraic geometry and combinatorics. Notably, he has been affiliated with the Mathematics Association America and the American Mathematical Society. His non-mathematical interest include chess and bridge, where he is currently a diamond ife master. He has also travelled extensively with his wife Harriet, having visited all seven continents. Dr. Adelberg has further been selected for inclusion in approximately 40 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the Midwest.
