Mr. Goldman has been a longtime professor in the College of Architecture and Design at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark, NJ, since 1996. Hired as an assistant professor in 1982, he later began serving as the founding director of the School of Art and Design in 2007. He was designated as a master teacher in 2010. Prior to his tenure at NJIT, Mr. Goldman taught as an assistant professor of architecture at Iowa State University from 1978 to 1980 and as an instructor in the career discovery program at his alma mater, Harvard University, during 1978.
Honored to have been able to teach in a way that truly makes a difference, Mr. Goldman noted the many changes that have occurred over the years in how the courses are taught. In fact, NJIT was the very first school to implement completely electronic-based architecture design studios in 1985. Passionate about the very dynamic, constantly changing field, which combines science, technology and art, Mr. Goldman has also enjoyed more than 30 years as the principal of Glenn Goldman, Architect, an architectural firm he established in Tenafly, NJ. Bringing with him more than 45 years of expertise, he is an architect, planner and graphic designer who has worked for several renowned firms across New Jersey, Massachusetts, Iowa and Jerusalem, Israel.
Mr. Goldman authored the 1997 book "Architectural Graphics: Traditional and Digital Communication." He formerly co-edited "Reality and Virtual Reality" in 1991 and co-authored and served as the photographer for the video "Iowa: Downtowns in Transition" in 1980. Mr. Goldman has authored several professional articles in his area of expertise, including "Digital Media and the Beginning Designer" in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computer Graphics and Applications in 2012. He also has numerous lectures and presentations to his credit such as "Let's Play Games and Watch Movies: Digital Media and Architectural Communication" delivered at Yale University's School of Architecture in 1997. He was an editorial board member with the International Journal of Architectural Computing from 2012 to 2013.
An elected fellow of the American Institute of Architects, Mr. Goldman is also a member and past president of the Association of Computer Aided Design in Architecture. He has been active in several other roles with the New Jersey Society of Architects and the Association of Computing Machinery Special Interest Group in Graphics as well.
Playing an active role in his community, Mr. Goldman is a member of the advisory board for Middlesex County Technical School since 2013, Bergen County Technical School since 2010. He formerly served on the board of the Morris County Technical School from 1996 to 2007 and Sussex County Technical School from 2000 to 2015.
During his career, Mr. Goldman has had more than 70 of his photographs cited in national and international competitions. He has received awards in the International Photography Awards program from 2014 through 2018 and Honorable Mention in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 American Institute of Architects National Architectural Photography Competitions. Selected as a winner of the AIA West Jersey Architectural Photography Competition between 2011 and 2018, Mr. Goldman was also named Innovator for Advancement in Technology and Education by Campus Technology magazine in 2005. The recipient of several other accolades, he also maintains a longtime Imaging Lab grant through numerous corporate sponsors since 1990 and was formerly the co-recipient of a Technical Engineering Pre-Visualization Architectural Design grant through the New Jersey Department of Higher Education in 1985 and 1989. He has been cited in approximately 35 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. He has notably held a Bachelor of Arts in architecture from Columbia University since 1974 and a Master of Arts in architecture from Harvard University since 1978. He is a registered architect and planner.
Married to Elizabeth Anne Strub since 1982, Mr. Goldman is the father of three children. In his free time, he has been active as a member of the Tenafly United Soccer Club, where he formerly served as both a youth soccer coach and vice president, and the Tenafly Swim Club as a member and former trustee and president.
