With more than a decade of industry experience, Dennis Edwards Kroll mastered the field of industrial engineering and decided to pass his lessons on to students as a professor. He would spend the following decades in the exciting and rewarding world of higher education, where he remains to this day.
The son of Witold Charles Kroll and Lillian Mary Kroll, Dennis Kroll was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1947. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Bradley University in 1970, Dr. Kroll ventured into the world of industry to make his mark. His first position was with Western Electric Company as a development engineer. He held this position for four years before advancing to the role of plant manager with Junis Manufacturing Company in 1974. He advanced quickly after that point, becoming a senior industrial engineer and a senior manufacturing engineer in rapid succession. By 1981, he had acquired enough knowledge to enter academia, becoming a professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Notably, Dr. Kroll continued his education while he was advancing his career. He earned a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1973 and a PhD from the University of Illinois in 1989.
Outside of work, Dr. Kroll served as the precinct committeeman of the Peoria Republican Committee from 1981 until 1982, and for the Woodford Republican Committee from 2002 until 2008. Dr. Kroll was a member of the board of directors of the West Peoria Street Light District from 1991 until 1995. He was a founding alderman of the City of West Peoria in 1993, and he was active in the Peoria Water Advisory Committee in 1999. He has been a founding editor of the Journal of Industrial Engineering Design since 1995, and he is a frequent contributor of articles for professional journals and chapters to books.
Dr. Kroll is a senior member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and a former chapter president of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. His other affiliations include the American Legion and the American Society for Engineering Education. He was elected to the board of trustees for Sigma Phi Delta to serve a term lasting from January 1st, 2018 to December 31st, 2019.
In recognition of his hard work and dedication, Dr. Kroll received a laboratory development award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in 1990. He also earned a simulation laboratory development award from St. Francis Medical Center in 1995 and a Bradley virtual course development award in 2001.
