Mr. Strawbridge earned a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University in 1959, soon thereafter gaining employment with the executive training program at Bloomingdale's, Inc., in New York City, where he worked from 1960 to 1961. Following in his father and grandfather's footsteps, he became involved with his family's business, Strawbridge & Clothier, in Philadelphia in 1961. Demonstrating aptitude for his chosen profession, Mr. Strawbridge became chairman of the board in 1984, retaining this position until his retirement from the industry in 1996. He considers his growth within the company to be one of his career highlights.
In addition to his primary professional endeavors, Mr. Strawbridge has worked as director of Mellon Bank in Philadelphia. He also worked as chairman of the board of trustees at the Princeton University Store in 1978. Demonstrating interest in civic outreach, he has served as chairman of the board of managers at Germantown Hospital, and board member of Einstein Medical Center and Jefferson Health System. Mr. Strawbridge has also worked as president of the Ralston Center and on the board of managers for Temple University.
Interested in maintaining connections within his industry, Mr. Strawbridge belonged to the Retail Merchants Association, the National Retail Federation, the Associated Merchandising Corporation and the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, all of which he has sat on their boards of directors. He was honored in the 24th, 25th and 28th editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry. He has also been featured in numerous editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the East.
