Dr. Jacob Daniel Kimel has been recognized as professor emeritus of Florida State University since 2003.

With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Kimel has been recognized as professor emeritus of Florida State University since 2003. Prior to his retirement, he served the university as a professor from 1988 to 2003 and an associate professor from 1973 to 1988. From 1967 to 1973, he was an assistant professor at the university, having formerly been a research associate from 1966 to 1967. In addition to his primary roles, he was director of graduate affairs in the physics department from 1989 to 1991. Earlier in his career, he served as a research associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1965 to 1966.
Dr. Kimel began his career as a student at the University of North Carolina, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in physics in 1959. He then joined the University of Wisconsin, completing a Master of Science in physics in 1960. He continued his studies with the university, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in physics in 1965.
A respected leader in his areas of interest, Dr. Kimel has been active with a number of professional organizations. A member of the American Physical Society and Sigma Xi, he has contributed a number of articles to professional journals and co-authored books in relation to his areas of expertise, including "Superconductivity Revisited," which was published in 2012. He was a fellow of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation and the National Science Foundation. Among his notable achievements, he is most renowned for his research on double-scattering models and Chew-Low extrapolations, the uniqueness of the interaction involve spin 3/2 particles, parton transverse momentum effects and QDC, higher order QDC calculations, and the Monte Carlo study of the spin 1 Blume-Capel model.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kimel has been recognized for his contributions, including having had the J. Daniel Kimel Professorship of Physics named in his honor by Florida State University. A High Energy Physics Research Grantee of the United States Department of Energy, he was also a recipient of an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1991. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
