Betty Rich Hendon Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    MEMPHIS, TN, March 21, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Betty Rich Hendon with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Hendon celebrates many years' experience in her professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Inspired by a former high school English teacher, Ms. Hendon earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from George Peabody College in 1956, following this accomplishment with a Master of Arts Plus 45 in curriculum and instruction from the University of Memphis in 1963. A prominent speaker in her field since 1977, Ms. Hendon worked with Memphis Technical High School from 1960 to 1968 and with Wooddale High School from 1968 to 1977, going on to serve the latter school as an administrative aide. As her career progressed, she taught at the University of Memphis and worked as a teacher with the Memphis City School System from 1960 to 1978, principal of Whitehaven Elementary School from 1978 to 1984, and principal of Manor Lake Elementary School from 1984 until her retirement from education in 1989.

Ms. Hendon has also worked Tennessee Department of Education's paperwork cutting forum and on the research and public speaking service committee and the Governor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped. Active in the religious community, Ms. Hendon taught at a local Sunday school from 1973 to 1983, served as block chairman for the Billy Graham Memphis Crusade in 1978, and currently works on the board for the First Assembly Christian School. She has also been involved with the Personal Dynamics Institute, the First Memphis Easter Seal Telethon, Citizens Against Pornography, the American Heart Association Drive and the Multiple Sclerosis Drive, along with founding the Rex and Rachel Turman Scholarship Fund.

Ms. Hendon maintained membership with several organizations in her field, including the American Association of University Women, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the Tennessee Principals Association, and the Memphis Public School Principals Association. She also belonged to the Tennessee Association for School Supervision and Administration, the National Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Tennessee Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Demonstrating considerable academic enthusiasm, she has been involved in such honor societies as Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi and Delta Pi Epsilon, for which she served as historian from 1972 to 1979.

Due to her educational expertise, Ms. Hendon has contributed numerous articles to professional journals in her field. She also authored "Paths that Cross" and "The Bridge: Unexpected Help with Life's Crossing," which was co-written with Judy Chatham, and she is currently working on a third book titled "Chasing the Wind." Owing to her professional and vocational accomplishments, she has been the recipient of numerous awards. She was named one of the Outstanding Educators of America in 1970 and was named Sweetheart of the Year by the First Assembly of God Church in 1977, among such honors as being listed with Outstanding Leaders in Elementary & Secondary Education and Who's Who of Women Executives. Likewise, she was named among the Most Admired Men and Women of the Year and listed in the 2004-2005 edition of Great Women of the 21st Century. Ms. Hendon has also been honored in several publications, including Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
