After 44 years of practiced industry experience, Don R. Schilling retired from his role as president and general manager of Decatur County REMC in 2017.

After 44 years of practiced industry experience, Mr. Schilling retired from his role as president and general manager of Decatur County REMC in 2017. He served in this role for 30 years. He also retired from his role as president of Hometown Energy LLC in 2017, where he also had previously served as secretary-treasurer. Prior to earning those titles, he was the assistant general manager of the Decatur County REMC from 1979 to 1986.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Schilling joined Indiana Michigan Power Company as an electrical engineer beginning in 1973. During his lengthy career, he has experienced many highlights. However, one that stands out as a crowning achievement was when he worked at REMC; as a result of his stellar work record, there were no recorded fatalities. Another highlight in his career was when he was president of the local economic development corporation, during which time they were able to attract the Honda Assembly Plant to Greensburg, IN, and bring 2,000 jobs to the area.
An expert in his field, Mr. Schilling holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Purdue University and a Master of Science in business administration from Indiana University. In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, he has maintained affiliation with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Greensburg Area Chamber of Commerce, where he served as president in 1994 and was honored as Community Leader of the Year in 2015.
In light of his achievements, Mr. Schilling has garnered several accolades. He has been highlighted in the seventh edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and the 35th edition of Who's Who in Finance and Business, as well as multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the Midwest. Looking toward the future, Mr. Schilling intends to continue enjoying his retirement.
