SAN ANTONIO, TX, March 29, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Susan Anderson Miller, EdD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Miller celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Miller has been a professor emeritus of education at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania since 2003, where she taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses for 31 years. Prior to her tenure at Kutztown, she served as a director for Title IV-A Day Care Programs in Reading, PA, was an assistant professor of education at the State University of New York at Potsdam, and taught as an elementary school teacher at North Syracuse, Liverpool and Marcellus Central Schools in New York.

Equally passionate about journalism, Dr. Miller first studied communications in college but later switched majors to early childhood education. Although she began in the field of education soon after graduating, she also began writing articles. Penning her very first column for a new early childhood Instructor Magazine, the opportunity propelled her career in the industry forward. She has since contributed more than 450 publications in journals, magazines and books including "Scholastic's Early Childhood Today," "Totline" and "Parents." Dr. Miller also wrote and consulted on 28 books for teachers and parents and children and is the author of the Problem Solving Safari series of teaching guides.

Ms. Miller is also the author of a series of books about the development of 3 and 4 year olds called "Growing Up in Stages" in 2017, "Learning through Play: Sand, Water, Wood and Clay" in 1993, "Games, Giggles & Giant Steps" in 1988 and "Learning through Play: Language" in 1991. She has been an issues and answers column contributor to "Early Childhood News" since 1990 and was a columnist for the Early Childhood Division of Scholastic from 1988 to 2012.

Dr. Miller was notably active on the advisory board for Scholastic's My First Magazine in New York City. She was on the New England Kindergarten Conference steering committee and evaluation committee between 1984 and 2001, the early childhood education advisory board at Lehigh County Community College between 1990 and 2000, and the Berks County Head Start Education Advisory Committee from 1997 to 2003.

A lifetime member, commissioner and validator for the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Dr. Miller is also a board member of the Organization Mondiale Pour l'Education Prescolaire (OMEP). She is a past president and former board member of several other professional organizations and has notably been named Member of the Year by the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI). Active locally, Ms. Miller has spent a lot of time volunteering for the North Side Independent School District. She also volunteers as a tutor at Vale Middle School and by conducting writing workshops at Murnin Elementary School.

For 15 summers, Dr. Miller and her husband Peter, an archaeologist, taught in and coordinated the Kutztown University England Summer Abroad Program at Buckinghamshire College.

During her career, Ms. Miller led groups of delegates for People to People International to China and Cuba. She spoke to a group of graduate students at the University of Nanjing on the topic of language development and early childhood education. An exciting opportunity, Ms. Miller was thrilled to receive dialogue from people of another country. The dean of the university also presented her with a book that she wrote on language development, which was a huge honor.

Interviewed in May 2018 by San Antonio's PBS station KLRN, the nationwide campaign "The Great American Read" was designed to inspire reading and discuss the meaning that books have in our lives. She was also interviewed in November 2017 by Rae Pica on BAM Radio, the largest, all-education talk radio network in the world, on the topic of "Cultivating Kindness: Students in a Climate That Devalues It." Honored multiple times for her work, Dr. Miller recently received a nomination for Outstanding Volunteer of the Year in 2015 by Murnin Elementary School. Kutztown University of Pennsylvania honored her by naming "The Susan A. Miller Branch" of ACEI in her honor in 2002, and also offers the Susan A. Miller Scholarship for Early Childhood Students. Ms. Miller has notably been cited in the fourth edition of Who's Who in American Education.

Earning a Bachelor of Science in family relations/child development and elementary education and a Master of Arts in elementary education from Syracuse University in 1963 and 1965, respectively, Ms. Miller later returned to school to complete a Doctor of Education in early childhood education at Nova Southeastern University in 1984. She is a certified elementary school teacher in both New York and Pennsylvania.

Retired, Ms. Miller lives in Texas and Vermont with her son, Gregory and two grandsons, Owen and Adam. She continues to research and write about early childhood.
