A biochemist with more than 40 years of experience in the field, Dr. Burleigh retired from his posts at Biosynthema-Advanced Accelerator Applications in 2012 after 11 years of service. In this role, he primarily worked on a product that was a radiotherapeutic specific for neuroendocrine tumors that has since been cleared for use in patients. He also excelled as a principal investigator for Discovery and a senior research scientist and research manager for Mallinckrodt Medical Inc. Dr. Burleigh found additional success in various roles for IMC-Pittman Moore, the International Minerals and Chemical Corporation, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the MRC Molecular Biology Lab in Cambridge, England.
Likewise, Dr. Burleigh taught various biochemistry and endocrinology courses to medical and graduate students, nurses and allied health professionals. He held academic posts at the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center at Houston, and the University of Indiana School of Medicine - Terre Haute Center for Medical Education. Holding various private consulting appointments, Dr. Burleigh also founded BDB Enterprises in 2013.

Throughout his career, he has been active as a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Endocrine Society, the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the American Chemical Society. Dr. Burleigh is also associated with Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society as well as several fraternities.
Dr. Burleigh has been the recipient of a Robert A. Welch grant, an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellowship and a National Institutes of Health predoctoral fellowship. He has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. Previously, Dr. Burleigh earned an undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University in 1964, followed by a Master's degree and a Doctorate in Biological Chemistry from the University of Michigan in 1967 and 1970, respectively.
