With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Robe has been recognized as dean emeritus of the Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University in Athens since 1996. He also notably served as the founding director of the T. Richard and Eleanora K. Robe Leadership Institute from 1996 to 2005. Prior to his retirement from teaching, Dr. Robe was Cruse W. Moss professor of engineering education at Ohio University from 1992 to 1996 and dean of the Russ College of Engineering and Technology from 1980 to 1996.
From 1965 to 1980, Dr. Robe held a number of positions with the University of Kentucky, including assistant professor, full professor, associate dean and special assistant to the dean. He was previously the president and board chair of QED Associates Inc. from 1975 to 1983 and a research fellow with the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 1973. Earlier in his career, Dr. Robe was acting instructor and instructor at Ohio University from 1960 to 1963 and an engineer with General Electric Co. from 1954 to 1960.
Dr. Robe began his career as a student at Ohio University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1955. He continued his studies with the university, completing a Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 1962. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Robe joined Stanford University in California, where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in applied mechanics in 1966.
Throughout his career, Dr. Robe has been recognized for his contributions. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
