For more than 50 years, Dr. Deter has excelled in the field of medicine, culminating in his current work as a professor with the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX since 1985. He has also served as associate professor of obstetrics-gynecology, director of obstetrical ultrasonography, assistant professor of obstetrics-gynecology, and assistant professor of anatomy and cell biology beginning in 1967. From 1986 to 2005, he was medical director of the Outpatient Ultrasound Program of Harris County Hospital District. Earlier in his career, he gained valuable experience at the University of Louvain in Belgium and Rockefeller University in New York City as a postdoctoral fellow between 1964 and 1967.
A member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Deter holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Doctor of Medicine from Baylor University. In order to remain abreast of changes in his field, he has maintained affiliation with the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. With a fund of knowledge at his disposal, he has contributed articles to professional journals and chapters to books, and he co-authored "Quantitative Obstetrical Ultrasonography" in 1986. During this time, he also served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound from 1982 to 1996.
In light of his outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Deter has obtained research grants through the Frankel Family Foundation and been honored for his work with the Joseph H. Holmes Award through the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound. Looking toward the future, Dr. Deter intends to continue his career with Baylor College of Medicine.
