Desiring to be involved with television production from a formative age, Mr. Buckner aspired to work in Hollywood. Attending San Diego State University, he received a Bachelor of Science in television, film and new media production. He later earned a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing and screenwriting from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont. Commencing his television career in 1976 at Norman Lear's production company, he served as a writer and producer (alongside partner Eugenie Ross-Leming) of the groundbreaking television series "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman." He then moved to Warner Bros. Television, where in 1983 he co-created wrote, and executive produced the hit series "Scarecrow & Mrs. King."

A long career in television followed, with Mr. Buckner moving, over the years, to Viacom Television (1984-1986), NBC Productions (1986-1987), Paramount Television (1987-1992), Warner Bros. (1993-1997), Showtime (1999-2001), Sony Television, and CBS Productions (2004-2010), among other companies. He wrote and produced series as varied as "Highcliffe Manor" (NBC), "Sons & Daughters" (CBS), "Lois & Clark- The New Adventures of Superman" (ABC), "Turks" (CBS), "Beggars and Choosers" (Showtime), "Hack" (CBS), and many more series and pilots. He currently serves as writer-executive producer on the CW's long-running hit "Supernatural" (2011-present). Additionally, he and Ross-Leming wrote and produced popular television movies such as "Roseanna & Tom, a Hollywood Marriage" (NBC), and "The Cartier Affair" (NBC), among others.

Mr. Buckner shared his long experience in television first as a guest lecturer in television writing and production at California State University, Northridge and Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, then as adjunct professor at Chapman University's film school in Orange, California (2006-2014). Civically involved as well, Mr. Buckner has been a member of the Los Angeles Conservancy since 2005. In addition to his television work, the play he wrote with Ms. Ross-Leming "A Little Crisis," was produced at the Los Angeles Ensemble Studio theatre. His non-fiction work "The Boy in the White Knit Hat" appeared in Goddard College's literary magazine "The Pritkin Review."

In an effort to remain abreast of developments in the field, Mr. Buckner maintains affiliation with numerous organizations, including the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, where he served on the Blue Ribbon panel for the Emmy Awards from 1980 to 1981, and the Writers Guild of America, where he has sat on the arbitration committee since 1996 and the WGA Television credits committee since 2009. In light of his exceptional achievements, he was selected for inclusion in the 65th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America. Married with two children, Mr. Buckner intends to teach television writing in the near future, as well as continue traveling.
