Prior to this appointment, he worked for Lischkoff & Pitts, P.C. as an accountant and an attorney from 2009 to 2010. Previously, he had served as a tax attorney and auditor for division of chief counsel and compliance of the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Treasury from 2006 to 2008. Mr. Gerth began his career as a law clerk for the Office of the Attorney General for the state of Alabama in 2004.
A member of the Alabama League of Municipal Attorneys and the Tax Section of the Alabama State Bar, Mr. Gerth initially pursued an education at Spring Hill College where he received a presidential honors academic scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 2002. He continued his studies with a Master of Science in tax accounting at Louisiana State University. Mr. Gerth concluded his academic efforts at Faulkner University in 2006, graduating from the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence.
Throughout his career, Mr. Gerth has lectured at a myriad of forums throughout the country for such organizations as the American Bar Association's Section of Taxation, the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, the Council on State Taxation, the National Association of Tax Preparers, the University of Alabama and Alabama Municipal Clerks' Association, the Florida Government Finance Officers' Association, the Government Finance Officers' Association of Texas, the California Municipal Revenue and Tax Association, and the Alabama Local Tax Institute of Standards and Training. Whenever he isn't working, he contributes to his colleagues and community through the Young Philanthropy Society of the United Way of Central Alabama and the Alabama Leadership Initiative. Moreover, Mr. Gerth has found success with his endeavors regarding the implementation of new federal, state, and local tax legislation and auditing standards passed by federal government, judgments on audits and appeals stemming from individual, corporate, and pass-through entity-level audits, and investigations that exposed abusive tax avoidance transactions and fraudulent tax evasion techniques by large firms and corporate tax departments throughout the country.
Additionally, Mr. Gerth was honored for his work with recognition among the Top 40 Under 40 of Business Professionals in 2018 and noted as a Lawyer of Distinction by the American Bar Association in 2018. Looking toward the future, Mr. Gerth intends to move into an executive position in his company while hoping to eventually establish private efforts focusing on tax law, land development, federal and state tax incentives, and other real estate matters.
