A retired attorney with 47 years of experience, Mr. Goldman devoted the latter portion of his career as partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman, LLP in Los Angeles, a full-service law firm with more than 600 attorneys across the United States, London and Shanghai. Employed at the firm from 1991 to 2010, he previously found success with Wyman, Bautzer, Kuchel & Silbert in Los Angeles as an associate attorney between 1963 and 1967 and as partner until 1991. Specializing in business litigation, Mr. Goldman has also represented clients regarding construction litigation and insurance coverage. During his legal career, Mr. Goldman served as a judge pro-tem for the California municipal and small claims courts as well as an arbitrator for the California Superior Court.
Mr. Goldman is a longtime member of the California Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar Association. Locally, he has been active with numerous organizations, including the Saint John's Hospital and Health Center Foundation since 1978, where he has served as Chairman, Vice Chairman, and member of the Executive Committee; and Providence Saint John's Health Center where he has served as Chairman and Treasurer of the Board of Directors and member of its Executive Committee over 18 years between 1989 and 2019. Mr. Goldman was the Chairman and CEO of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (now the URJ) from 1987 through 1991, a member of its Board of Trustees since 1977, and continues to serve as Honorary Chair and member of its Oversight Committee. He has been a member of the Board of Governors and a Governor Emeritus of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion since 1988, and a member of its Los Angeles Campus Board of Overseers since 1981. Mr. Goldman has excelled in various capacities with the California Museum of Science and Industry, the HUC Skirball Cultural Center, the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles, among other organizations as well.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Goldman has notably been recognized by Super Lawyers in 2004 and 2006. Likewise, he was honored as the Humanitarian of the Year by the National Conference for Community and Justice in 1995. Mr. Goldman has also been highlighted in approximately 40 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
Earning an undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, at Harvard University in 1958, Mr. Goldman completed service in the United States Navy as a lieutenant between 1958 and 1960. He also obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Harvard University in 1963. Following these accomplishments, Mr. Goldman accepted an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1992. Mr. Goldman has been admitted to practice law by the State Bar of California, the District of Columbia Bar, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
