Mr. Neff earned a Bachelor of Science, with high distinction, from the University of Minnesota in 1970, following this accomplishment with a Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law, now known as Mitchell Hamline School of Law, in 1976. He has been admitted to numerous bars, as well as district and appellate courts, including the Minnesota Bar Association, the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Wisconsin Bar Association and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin and North Dakota Bar. An accomplished professional in his field, Mr. Neff is currently the president of Neff Law Firm, P.A., where he has worked since 1986, as well as the chief executive officer of the Professional Development Institute, Inc. Mr. Neff has served as an investigator, assistant county attorney, done public defender work and private counsel. As an attorney he has successfully concentrated on complex litigation including plaintiff's antitrust, federal multi-district litigation, representing large groups of victims against common defendants, federal qui tam and financial fraud cases. He has also served on the board of directors for a major insurance company.
In 1970, Mr. Neff worked as a teacher at Hopkins Public Schools, going on to work as an instructor at the University of Minnesota in 1974. He then worked in a private practice in Minneapolis and as an assistant county attorney for Sibley County before becoming involved with Hyatt Legal Services as managing attorney, regional partner and eventual professional development partner. Mr. Neff has also been on the board of directors for the Professional Development Institute, Inc., and is president of Neff Law Firm.
In addition to his primary professional accomplishments, Mr. Neff was an investigator from 1973 to 1976, an instructor at the University of Minnesota 1974 to 1976; at the University of Wisconsin 1975 to 1978; and Inver Hills College from 1973 to 1977, a consultant for the National Detective Agency, Inc., from 1980 to 1983, a visiting lecturer for the College of St. Scholastica in 1977 and a member of the International Confederation of Jurists in 1993, along with several other notable positions. Interested in reaching out to his community, Mr. Neff was advisor to the Sibley County Commissioners from 1979 to 1980, a speaker with civic groups from 1976 to 1982, a member of the Hennepin County Juvenile Justice Panel from 1980 to 1982, the Hennepin County Public Defender's Conflict Panel from 1986 to 1995 and a founding sponsor of the Civil Justice Foundation. He has also been involved with the Hennepin County Bar Association, the Montgomery Ward's Legal Services Panel (now known as the Signature Group) the Commission for the Battle of Normandy Museum, and the Endless Fist Society, along with other civic associations.
Mr. Neff's written works are myriad, including but not limited to the eight-book series "Fred Neff's Self-Defense Library," "Everybody's Self-Defense Book," "Karate is for Me," "Lessons from the Samurai," "Lessons from the Art of Kempo," "Lessons from the Fighting Commandos," "Lessons from the Eastern Warriors," and "Lessons from the Western Warriors," among many others. He also co-hosted television's "Great Unsolved Crimes," later known as "Great Puzzles in History," and was the host of the television program "Mysterious Persons in History," as well as authoring companion books "Great Puzzles in History" and "Mysterious Persons in History." Mr. Neff formerly worked as an assistant editor of the Hennepin County Lawyer as well as writing numerous articles for other publications. Interested in remaining abreast of industry developments, Mr. Neff belonged to the National District Attorney's Association, the American Bar Association, the Trial Lawyers of America, the Minnesota Bar Association along with other bar associations and relevant organizations. He is also a fellow of the Roscoe Pound Foundation.
Demonstrating unmatched expertise in his field, Mr. Neff has been the recipient of many awards in his industry, including the Outstanding Teacher Award, as given by the Inver Hills College student body in 1973 and the St. Paul Citizen of the Month Award in 1975. He has also received the Kempo Club Award; the University of Minnesota Student Appreciation Award; the Sibley County Attorney Commendation Award; the WCCO Radio Good Neighbor Award; the Lamp of Knowledge Award; the Presidential Medal of Merit Award (George H.W. Bush); the HLS Justice Award; the lawyer Creative Thinker Award, and the Wisdom Society Award along with other honors in his industry as well as many martial arts titles, awards and certifications.
