Now retired as a computer technology professional, Ms. Strong was widely recognized for her innovation implementing demand printing of equipment manuals and for being an early adopter of electronic publishing and content management systems. She received a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and journalism from Whitworth University in 1973 and a Master of Science in applied information management from the University of Oregon in 1992. Ms. Strong's first position was as a math and aerospace demonstrator with the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, WA, from 1970 to 1971.
Ms. Strong experienced success at Tektronix, Inc. in Beaverton, OR starting in 1973 as a technical writer helping engineers create reusable designs. In her 26 years in multiple high-tech positions, Ms. Strong managed publications and computer training groups, excelled as the worldwide director of customer communications and became the company's internet strategist in 1999. She received a Manufacturing Engineering Innovation award for her demand printing solution and was a keynote speaker at an On-Demand Printing conference in 1996. Ms. Strong excelled as the owner and a consultant of Strong Strategic Consulting, addressing clients' information design and content management challenges for eight years, until 2008. In the evenings, Ms. Strong taught information design, website usability and XML classes as an adjunct professor in a master of science program for the University of Oregon from 1994 to 2009.
An active member of several professional organizations and engagements, Ms. Strong found success as a member of the Board of Directors for the First Technology Federal Credit Union from 1984 to 2015. First Tech was regarded as an early adopter of online banking technologies during Ms. Strong's 30 years as Board Chairman. She contributed to the Beaverton School District in Beaverton, OR as an autism special program aide from 2008 to 2015, using her information design experience to teach practical skills to students. Her membership affiliations include the Association for Computing Machinery and the Society for Technical Communications, for which she held the roles of the secretary, treasurer and president from 1978 to 1980.
Ms. Strong currently resides in Portland, OR, where she has been a volunteer for the bereavement program at the Serenity Hospice since 2014. Enjoying her retirement, she delights in rose gardening, reading, learning Japanese, Lego building, and observing technology trends. Additionally, Ms. Strong has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in the West.
