Supported by more than 30 years of experience in the field of law, Mr. Settle is a prominent attorney who has been serving as senior counsel at AmeriHealth Caritas since 2017. Prior to this post, he worked as vice president of Bernstein Global Wealth Management from 2010 to 2016, a principal of IKON Public Affairs from 2006 to 2010, and the chief counsel of UnitedHealthcare of Pennsylvania from 2005 to 2006. Earlier in his career, he held such esteemed roles as senior vice president and chief counsel at AmeriChoice Health Services, Inc., regional general counsel at Aetna, Inc., and deputy general counsel to Governor Tom Ridge of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Beginning his career in 1986, Mr. Settle found success as an associate with Wolf, Block, Schorr & Solis-Cohen and with Fox, Rothschild, O'Brien & Frankel in Philadelphia, PA.
Admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States, Mr. Settle initially earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Colgate University where he was two-time George Cobb Fellow. He concluded his studies at the George Washington University, graduating, with honors, with a Doctor of Jurisprudence and was a member of the George Washington Law Review.
Civically involved, Mr. Settle most recently maintained involvement as the 32nd president of Main Line Reform Temple from 2014 to 2016 where he still serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees. He also serves as a trustee of the Endowment Corporation of Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and The Early Head Start Program of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. In the past he has served as a Trustee of Colgate University and the Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital and Foundation. Mr. Settle has been active in local politics serving in the past as an elected Committeeperson in both Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties and as campaign counsel for Craig Snyder for U.S. Congress and policy director for Tom Knox for Mayor. However, he cites the highlight of his career to be when he led the effort to pass Pennsylvania Act 62, a law that requires insurance coverage for children with autism. In addition, during his time in state government, Mr. Settle recalls that his responsibility to help launch Health Choices, the mandatory managed care program that improves healthcare access to indigent people was another career highlight.
In an effort to remain abreast of developments within the field of law, Mr. Settle has been involved with several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association and the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations where he served on the young lawyers division executive committees, and Phi Alpha Delta, where he was active as a marshal. He is also a member of the White Manor Country Club. As a testament to his success, Mr. Settle was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
