Paschal with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Prior to earning a Bachelor of Arts from Xavier University in New Orleans, LA in 1957, Dr. Paschal served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea from 1951 to 1953. He began his professional career as a fifth grade teacher at East View Elementary School in Americus, GA until 1959. Subsequently, he worked as a librarian and a counselor with Staley Junior High School in Americus from 1959 to 1965, furthering his professional progress as the school social worker for the Americus City system for two years. During that time, Dr. Paschal obtained a Master of Science from Fort Valley State University in 1963, which helped him excel as a coordinator of student services for Augusta Technical College from 1967 to 1978. He concluded his educational studies after receiving a Doctor of Education from the University of South Carolina in 1977, which was followed by his role as a director of student affairs with Benedict College in Columbia, SC, from 1978 to 1982.
Dr. Paschal also contributed as a coordinator of facilities for the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education from 1982 to 1989 as well as a counselor for Monroe High School in Albany, GA and Swainsboro High School in GA between 1990 to 1999. Utilizing his educational background and past job experiences, he founded the Family Counseling Center in 2000, which sought to provide pro-bono work for individuals who were unable to afford the services. While operating in this business for ten years, he simultaneously worked as the head of the counseling program for Albany State University until his departure in 2005. Other career related endeavors to his credit include volunteering with AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana and the Baptist Friendship House in New Orleans, LA from 1953 to 1957.
For his accomplishments and contributions to the field, Dr. Paschal has received a Graduate Assistantship Award from Fort Valley State College in 1962 and 1963, as well as the Bronzed Service Medal from the United States Army. He also maintains a relationship with numerous professional organizations including the National Education Association, the American Counseling Association, the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia, Alpha Phi Alpha, 100 Black Men of America Inc., Kiwanis International and Optimist International. Outside of work, Dr. Paschal enjoys reading, walking and helping others in his spare time.
