Dr. Ronald J. Glossop has been an Honorary Member of Esperanto-USA in the United States since 2012 and was named an Honorary Member of the International League of Esperanto Teachers in 2018.

Supported by nearly 40 years of practical experience in philosophy, academia and language, Dr. Glossop is a prominent figure in his fields whose expertise is unparalleled. Commencing his career in 1960 as an instructor at Boise Junior College (which later became Boise State University) in Idaho, a position he held for one year, he went on to serve as an Instructor and Assistant Professor at Portland State University in Oregon from 1961 to 1965. Spending the majority of his career at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, he acted as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor from 1965 until his retirement from education in 2000. During his tenure, Dr. Glossop served on the Executive Committee of the Hume Society for two years and was Coordinator of the Peace Studies Program at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville from 1974 to 1998.
To prepare for his career, in 1955 Dr. Glossop earned a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, at Carthage College in Carthage, Illinois (but later relocated to Kenosha, Wisconsin). He went on to pursue graduate coursework at Chicago Lutheran School of Theology for one year 1955-1956. In 1960 he received his Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis. Contributing over 30 articles to professional journals throughout his career, his expertise is in philosophy, peace studies and the Esperanto language. A former member of the editorial staff of Hume Studies, Dr. Glossop authored three books, "Philosophy: An Introduction to Its Problems and Vocabulary" in 1974, "World Federation?" in 1993, and "Confronting War: An Examination of Humanity's Most Pressing Problem," the first edition in 1983 with additional editions published in 1987, 1994 and 2001. "World Federation?" was translated into Esperanto as "Monda Federacio?" by Johano Rapley and self-published by Glossop in 2001.
Using the language Esperanto since 1985, Dr. Glossop received a diploma from the Universal Esperanto Association at its 2017 annual international Universala Kongreso in the Republic of Korea for his outstanding activity for Esperanto. Since 2002 he has served as Director of Children Around the World, a global organization that now is particularly active in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2012, Dr. Glossop taught the course "Confronting War" (in Esperanto "Alfronti Militon") at the University of Esperanto in Hainan, China, where he taught Esperantists from across the globe, many of them from Europe.
Dr. Glossop was the President of the American Association of Teachers of Esperanto from 2009 to 2018, as well as a member of the board of directors of Esperanto-USA and earlier Vice-President of the International League of Esperanto Teachers. Esperanto, known as the most widely spoken constructed international auxiliary language in the world, translates to English as "one who hopes." Constructed to serve as a readily-learned universal second language to foster peace and international understanding, there are approximately two million speakers across the globe.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Glossop has been an Honorary Member of Esperanto-USA in the United States since 2012 and was named an Honorary Member of the International League of Esperanto Teachers in 2018. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the U.S. civil society peace organization Citizens for Global Solutions in 2017.
Dr. Glossop was born on February 17, 1933 in Aurora IL to mother Helen M. Johnson and father Donald LeRoy Sr. He later married Audrey Yvonne on May 31, 1958, and together they are the proud parents of one child named Kent David. Moreover, they have two grandchildren named Robert and Ryan. Dr. Glossop was born eight minutes after his twin brother who was named Donald LeRoy Glossop, Jr. and who was employed throughout his life as a mechanical engineer/designer for Ford Motor Company.
