Gerald Lloyd Wood received seven Outstanding Merchandising Achievement Awards from Point of Purchase Advertising Institute.

Mr. Wood led a very successful career in management, industrial design and merchandising for more than 35 years. Retiring in 1996 as the general manager of C&J Corporate Merchandising in Tucson, Arizona, after three years in this role, he previously served as a design laboratory manager and account executive with the E and E Display Group in Lawrence, Kansas. He also spent 10 years as the president and chief executive officer of G.L.W. Inc. in Tucson. Prior to these roles, he spent 20 years with Hallmark Cards Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri. Initially hired as a graphic designer in 1964, Mr. Wood later served in multiple other roles, including senior package designer, merchandise display manager and national store operations manager.
Involved in education as well, Mr. Wood served on the design advisory committee at Pima Community College in Tucson from 1987 to 1988 and was an associate faculty member in 1988. He also spent two years as a coordinator of minority financial aid at the University of Arizona in Tucson from 1988 to 1990 and was a research consultant for the university in 1989. During his career, Mr. Wood also chaired the Hallpac for Hallmark Cards and was a United States designer delegate for the Industrial Designers Society of America to Mexico City for the first hemispheric design congress called "Design in the Americas."
The co-author of "AAU Research Institution Pilots Transfer Institute to Enhance Minority Educational Opportunities" in Resources in Education in 1989, Mr. Wood has authored numerous operating and training manuals over the years as well. He also contributed a weekly column in the Mena Star on horticulture and gardening during 2001. Mr. Wood authored an autobiography called "Sand Between My Toes" in 2001 and has since published various poetry and prose about his personal reflections on life as well.
A member and former vice president of the Higher Education Student Organization at the University of Arizona, Mr. Wood is also a life member of the University of Oklahoma Alumni Association, the Republican National Committee and the Seminole High School Alumni Association. Furthermore, he is a longtime member of the Industrial Designers Society of America and the Point of Purchase Advertising Institute, among other organizations. In recent years, he founded a volunteer fundraising organization in Scottsdale called Alzheimer's ART from the HeART, and has been serving as president since 2010. Mr. Wood has held multiple local positions over the years with such organizations as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Boy Scouts of America, the Alzheimer's Association, Duet Partners in Health and Aging, United Way Worldwide and the school board of Blue Valley United School District 229.
Awarded five patents, Mr. Wood holds three from the United States, one from Germany and one from Canada. They include a design engineer card cartridge system, an industrial engineer series 70 merchandising system, a designer merchandise display unit, a concept creator seasonal disposable display system and a package designer folding merchandise container. The recipient of multiple honors and accolades as well, he notably received a Volunteer Achievement Award from the desert Southwest chapter of the Alzheimer's Association for 2012 and 2013, seven Outstanding Merchandising Achievement Awards from Point of Purchase Advertising Institute between 1968 and 1992 and an Outstanding Service and Contribution Award from the University of Arizona for his work as program coordinator of the Exploratory Transfer Institute in 1989. Mr. Wood has been cited in the 22nd and 23rd editions of Who's Who in the West and the 24th edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.
Prior to embarking on his career, Mr. Wood pursued his studies at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1960 and a Master of Public Administration in 1971. Following these accomplishments, he began work towards a doctorate degree in higher education at the University of Arizona, completing everything but his dissertation in 1989. He has completed further advanced coursework at Michigan State University, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Missouri in Kansas City, the Kansas City Art Institute, the CAD Institute in Phoenix and numerous junior colleges. Holding a lifetime teaching certificate in five subject areas through the State Board of Directors for Community Colleges of Arizona since 1989, Mr. Wood also holds AutoCAD proficiency through the CAD Institute.
