An accomplished listee, Dr. Wilcox celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. After enlisting in service for the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956, Dr. Wilcox decided to pursue higher education. Subsequently, he secured a Bachelor of Arts in 1959 and a Master of Arts in clinical psychology in 1960 from the Ohio State University. He furthered his educational studies by earning a Doctor of Philosophy in experimental psychology and psycholinguistics from the University of Tennessee in 1968 and established his own practice in 1976, where he served as the principal psychologist until his retirement. During this time, Dr. Wilcox also worked as an industrial consultant with the Visual Information Institute, in Xenia, OH from 1967 to 1990 and the director of administration for the Six County Mental Health System in Zanesville, OH, office. Earlier in his career, Dr. Wilcox held the position of an administrative consultant for Community Mental Health in Saint Clairsville, OH, from 1967 to 1999. He was a tenured full professor in the Ohio University System and worked at the Zanesville campus.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Wilcox maintains involvement with the American Psychological Association, the American Arbitration Association and the Ohio Psychological Association. He also excelled as an author, publishing his first book, "Psychological Consequences of Being a Black American," in 1971. Furthermore, he contributed his expertise to over 15 articles that focused on verbal learning and verbal behavior to professional journals. Notably, he was chosen as one of 24 military personnel to attend the chemical, biological and radiological training in San Antonio, TX. He has also given invited addresses to the National Association of Mathematics as well as the National Association of Teachers of English. He was also invited to write a chapter in a clinical psychology textbook, which was written by C.F. Milton and Wahler.

Dr. Wilcox also co-founded the Ohio Association for Mental Health Directors in Columbus, OH in 1976, as well as devoted his time to serving the local Goodwill Industries and as the budget committee chair for the United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties in Ohio, from 1970 to 1973. He also spent time on Zanesville's Architectural Design and Review Board. For his achievements in the field, he was presented with a fellowship with the United States Public Health Service in 1960. Furthermore, Dr. Wilcox received recognition for his work from the United Office of Education in 1968.
