With Information Services Group, formerly Technology Partners International, she spent nearly ten years as a market intelligence specialist, program manager, and scriptwriter from 2003 to 2013.
In the two years prior to accepting this position, Dr. El-Messidi worked in Competitive Intelligence content as a messaging and deliverables manager for Compaq and Hewlett-Packard. Earlier, she served as a senior market content developer and speechwriter for Electronic Data Systems from 2000 to 2001. At Rice University from 1994 to 2000, she served as a Rice University presidential speechwriter and associate director of external relations with the National Science Foundation's Center for Research on Parallel Computation. This work had a great influence on the information technology industry. Previously, she acted as a senior speechwriter for Sandy Corporation and Tenneco Inc. from 1986 to 1994. As a senior speechwriter and supervising editor at Exxon Production Research Company from 1980 to 1984, she was one of the first women in that company's management program. Notably, the Exxon and NSF jobs were instrumental in offering her leadership opportunities.
Dr. El-Messidi initially earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and history from the University of Michigan in 1967, following this accomplishment with a Master of Arts in social science from Southern Oregon University in 1971 and a Doctor of Philosophy in current American history from the University of Oklahoma in 1976. She commenced her career as a reporter for Grosse Pointe News in 1966 and with Christian Science Monitor from 1967 to 1969. She went on to work as a publicity writer for Harry & David and Jackson & Perkins Companies from 1970 to 1971.
Continuing in her writing career, Dr. El-Messidi was a radio writer for Station WNAD in 1973 and a public relations writer in Houston, TX, from 1976 to 1978. She also worked as a history instructor at the University of Oklahoma from 1972 to 1975, manager of communications at Bovay Engineers Incorporated from 1978 to 1980, and communications consultant at the CRS Group Incorporated from 1980 to 1981.
Dr. El-Messidi was inspired to pursue her current industry by her father, who worked for General Motors as director of news relations. In addition to her primary professional endeavors, she was a board member with Enchanted Valley Estates in Cypress, TX, from 2013 to 2018 and is an associate at Rice University, Houston, TX.
Dr. El-Messidi's book, "Grosse Pointe, Michigan: Race Against Race" was published in 1972 by Michigan State University Press. Notably, it was awarded the American PEN Women First Place Award for Informational Books. She followed this accomplishment with "The Bargain: The Story Behind the 30-Year Honeymoon of General Motors and the United Auto Workers," which was published by the Nellen Publishing Company in New York City in 1978. From 1998 to 1000, she authored articles on the automobile industry for Microsoft Encarta.
Prominent in her field, Dr. El-Messidi is well-established as a speechwriter for executives, work she considers to be the highlight of her career. Interested in maintaining connections in her industry, she belongs to the American Historical Association, Women in Communications, the National League of American Pen Women, and the International Association of Business Communicators. She is also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma social sorority. In light of her many accomplishments, she was honored in the 16th edition of Who's Who of American Women.
Reflecting on her life, Dr. El-Messidi is proud of having children when she was told she would not be able to. She never thought she would accomplish as much as she has, having grown up in a time when women were not encouraged to enter the corporate world. She is particularly grateful for her late husband, Adel, and her daughters, Lyla Hampton and Mariam El-Messidi, who were very patient with her as she pursued her career.
