With more than 45 years of professional experience, Dr. Lounsberry has been recognized as professor emeritus of Alfred State, the State University of New York College of Technology, since 2014, having been a professor of social and behavioral sciences from 2005 to 2014. Prior to obtaining this role, he was an associate professor and bachelor's program director at Florida Gulf Coast University from 1996 to 2005, where he founded the social work program, and director of social services and mental health at Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida from 1992 to 1996. He previously held a number of positions with the U.S. Public Health Service, including human services consultant from 1981 to 1992, career development trainee from 1979 to 1981, mental health consultant from 1974 to 1979, service unit director from 1972 to 1974, and social worker from 1970 to 1972. Earlier in his career, Dr. Lounsberry was a school community agent with Detroit Public Schools from 1968 to 1970.
Dr. Lounsberry began his career as a student at the University of Rochester, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1966. He then joined the University of Michigan, completing a Master of Social Work in 1968. After obtaining some experience in the field, he returned to his studies with the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Master of Public Health in 1981 and a Doctor of Philosophy in social work, research policy and analysis in 1985. Dr. Lounsberry is a licensed specialist in social work in the states of Kansas and Florida.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lounsberry has been recognized for his contributions, including having been named Social Worker of the Year by the American Public Health Association. For over forty years, he has been a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers, and National Association of Social Workers. He has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, and Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals.
