Prior to joining his firm, he was the President and CEO of Wulfsberg, Reese & Colvig Professional Corporation. His legal background includes litigation, and transactional experience in the mining, engineering, chemical and construction industries. He is experienced in business litigation, concentrating in real estate and environment law, compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act and air, water and hazardous substance regulations. Furthermore, Mr. Reese is an experienced negotiator and advisor to both public and private entities.
A Robert E. Lee Research Scholar between 1965 and 1966, Mr. Reese later earned his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, at Washington and Lee University in 1966. Following this accomplishment, he obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of California at Berkeley in 1969. Soon after, Mr. Reese was admitted to the California Bar Association and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Formerly serving on the board of directors for PLA Holdings, Inc. in Port Costa, Calif. for nearly a decade, Mr. Reese has continued to serve as a Director for Brown and Caldwell in Walnut Creek, California since 1987. He served on the Board of Directors for Planned Parenthood Alameda/San Francisco for two years and was also an honorary trustee for the Orinda Foundation during the late 1970s. Mr. Reese is a longtime member of the American Bar Association, the Alameda County Bar Association, the Bar Association of San Francisco, the State Bar of California, among others.
Recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in the Bay Area for Business and Corporate Law by Bay Area Lawyer Magazine and included in Northern California Super Lawyers for 2014, one of the highlights of his career was a trial that he and his team had won, which was appealed and went to the California Supreme Court in 2007. Privileged to argue the appellate case and win with a 7-0 decision, the case was published, and the Supreme Court renamed the statute formerly known as the California Tort Claims Act to the California Government Claims Act to confirm his view. The oral argument in the case, City of Stockton v. The Superior Court of Sacramento County (Civic Partners of Stockton, LLC) was also televised.
Married to Jill Fritschi Reese for more than 35 years until her passing in January 2014, Mr. Reese is the proud father of two daughters, Clarissa Reese Denton and Alexandra Reese, and grandfather of one granddaughter, Olivia Reese Denton. In his free time, he enjoys participating in triathlons and marathons, going helicopter skiing and duck hunting. Notably, he ran the Boston Marathon in 1996, 2010, 2011 and 2012 and qualified and successfully completed the Hawaiian Ironman in Kona, Hawaii in 2000.
