During this time, Dr. Spaethling spent time as a professor of German at the University of California, San Diego as well.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Spaethling served with the United States Army before becoming a teacher and serving with a number of institutions. Beginning his career in education as an assistant teacher at the University of California, Berkeley, he progressed from instructor to associate professor at Harvard University and also spent a year as an associate professor at Williams College. Utilizing is decades of knowledge in the field, Dr. Spaethling authored "Mozart and Goethe" in 1987 and "Mozart's Letters, Mozart's Life" in 2000.
An expert in his field, Dr. Spaethling holds a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley and an honorary Master of Arts from Harvard University. For his excellence in the field, he earned a fellowship and a grant through the National Endowment of the Humanities.
