After accruing 25 years of professional excellence in education and social work, Dr. Di Palma retired from her role as a faculty of social work at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in 2001, where she previously worked as assistant dean of the School of Social Work and associate dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences between 1978 and 1997. At the inception of her career, she joined the Division of Youth and Family Services in Paterson, NJ, as an assistant regional supervisor for one year and the Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services in Trenton, NJ, as a regional social work supervisor for an additional year.
In the latter portion of her career, Dr. Di Palma also served the Council of Social Work Education in Washington, DC, as a commissioner for the Global Commission on Social Work Education between 2001 and 2010. In a career filled with highlights, she is especially proud to have earned the President's Award for Administrative Excellence in 1993. Additionally, she is honored to have been elected president of the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools, been instrumental in the establishment of joint graduate programs with other universities and to have set up programs for the success of minority and foreign students.
An expert in her field, Dr. Di Palma holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and psychology, a Master of Social Work and a Doctor of Philosophy in social work from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. To remain abreast of changes in the field, she maintains affiliation with the National Association of Social Workers, and the Council on Social Work Education.
In light of her professional accomplishments, Dr. Di Palma won a Distinguished Service Award from the Italian Vice Consulate and features in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. Married to James Robert Grisi since 1991, she is the proud mother of one son and enjoys traveling, reading, swimming and walking in her spare time. Looking forward, Dr. Di Palma intends to continue enjoying her retirement.
