RIDGEFIELD, NJ, April 12, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Francis T. Jones, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Jones celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After earning a Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University in 1955, Dr. Jones went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now known as the New York University Tandon School of Engineering) in 1960. He was a postdoctoral GEC fellow at the High Energy Radiation Laboratory of the University of Leeds, England from 1960 to 1962.
He served as a research scientist at the Union Carbide Nuclear Company. He was also a faculty participant at the Oak Ridge National Laboratories in Tennessee. Since 1964, Dr. Jones has been on the faculty of Stevens Institute of Technology. He progressed from assistant professor to professor, and at various times served as department head of chemistry and chemical engineering; department director of chemistry, chemical biology, and biomedical engineering; and as director of chemistry and chemical biology. He was appointed Secretary of the Faculty of Stevens Institute of Technology, and was awarded the honorary degree Master of Engineering honoris causae in 1975.
Dr. Jones has maintained an active interest in both chemistry and music - his second field of interest - and has made significant contributions to both fields. His doctoral dissertation required constructing a gauge to measure para-hydrogen, one of the forms of hydrogen gas. In Leeds, he developed a technique to measure the spectrum of an unstable species created by ionizing radiation in a low temperature glassy matrix. On a much large scale, at Stevens Institute he created a new undergraduate major now named Chemical Biology, which has since been widely imitated at other universities. The graduate program leading to MS and PhD degrees in chemical biology soon followed. Dr. Jones is an emeritus member of the American Chemical Society. He was honored by the 24th edition of Who's Who in the East. Among his contributions to music were the digital-analog interface to connect an electronic organ to the pipe organ, making the voices of both instruments simultaneously accessible to the performer. For this development he received the Episcopal Church's Trinity Award in both 1991 and 1995. He has given numerous public recitals demonstrating this instrument. He has been organist and choir director of Trinity Episcopal Church from 1990 to 2006.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Jones has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
