After working in the field of nursing for many years, Mrs. Swinford founded the Shades of Blue Ranch, where she houses and cares for more than 20 miniature horses.

Previously, she worked for the Easter Seal Therapy Center for Physically and Mentally Challenged Children, Valley Hi Nursing Home, Carostoel Nursing Home and the Pioneer Training Center for Mentally Challenged Adults and Children.
Certified as a nurse's aid through McHenry County College, Mrs. Swinford gives back to her community through her affiliations with the Journey Care Hospice, Fallabella International Preservation Association in Florida, the Fallabella Breeders and Owners Society, and the Heart of America Miniature Equine Club, who recognized her with the Excellent Leadership and Ever-Present Dedication Award in 2018. Looking toward the future, Mrs. Swinford intends to continue raising miniature horses and expand their training so that they can spread more love to hospitals and nursing homes in the area.
