Steven Warren Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Steven Warren has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the ecology industry

Dr. Steven Warren currently works as a research ecologist for the U.S. Forest Service and as an adjunct graduate faculty member for Brigham Young University.

PROVO, UT, April 12, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Steven Warren with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Steven Warren celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Warren initially pursued an education at Brigham Young University, earning a Bachelor of Science. He continued his studies with a Master of Science, also at Brigham Young University. Dr. Warren concluded his academic efforts at Texas A&M University where he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy.

Backed by many years of professional excellence, Dr. Warren currently works as a research ecologist for the U.S. Forest Service and as an adjunct graduate faculty member for Brigham Young University. Earlier in his career, he served as an ecologist for the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory where he helped develop and implement an erosion-based land capability classification system, which allocates land condition inventory sites based on satellite imagery and digital soil surveys. Due to his work with the Army Corps of Engineers, he was able to excel as a senior research scientist and subsequently director of the Center for Environmental Management and Military Lands (CEMML) at Colorado State University. He has worked on military training areas throughout the United States and Germany. He currently studies, among other things, biological soil crusts which colonize bare soils. He has been awarded the Army Civilian Research Award and the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service. Looking toward the future, Dr. Warren intends to experience continued growth and success of his career. He has published over 100 scientific articles and has made over 100 presentations at professional scientific meetings. His work has taken him throughout most of the continental United States, Hawaii, Canada, Iceland, England, Germany, Mexico, Korea, and the Atacama Desert of northern Chile.

Recent research-related contributions include: (1) Dr. Warren has discovered that many columnar, arbuscular and arborescent cacti in the United States and abroad produce their flowers and fruits on the side of their stems that face the equator. Such orientation overcomes weak vascular systems and ensures that the flowers arise from the stems where exposure to sunlight is maximized. (2) Given his lengthy work with biological soil crusts (soil-dwelling lichens, mosses, algae, and cyanobacteria) he has documented that they are not, as was once thought, unique to deserts. They occur anywhere that aridity or disturbance has reduced the cover of competing plants. He has observed and/or collected them from Florida to Hawaii, and in Iceland, Chile, and Germany. He has recently documented that they are dispersed globally on wind currents.

In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Warren is affiliated with the Society for Ecological Restoration and the Society for Range Management. During the course of his career, he has voluntarily contributed to his communities as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Varsity Team Coach, Explorer Post Advisor, Troop Committee Chairman, member of a District Committee, and volunteer in the Order of the Arrow in the Boy Scouts of America. In addition, he was elected to the Village Committee (City Council) for Mahomet, Illinois. He served in bishoprics in three different cities for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Steven Warren has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
