Supported by 50 years of practiced experience in his field, Dr. Allen currently serves as a visiting scholar in conservative thought and policy for the Center for Western Civilization, Thought and Policy at the University of Colorado, Boulder, as a trustee for the Hartford County Public Library, and as director of the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Hospital. Earlier in his career, he excelled as professor and dean at Harvey Mudd College and Michigan State University.
Over the years, Dr. Allen has found success through executive and educational positions with the United States Commission on Civil Rights, Villanova University, Princeton University and the Institute for Responsible Citizenship. Although his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of the students he has had the pleasure of mentoring. An expert in his field, Dr. Allen earned a Bachelor of Arts from Pepperdine University, as well as a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy from Claremont Graduate University.
Dr. Allen is affiliated with the American Political Science Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. During his spare time, he contributes to his community at the First Baptist Church, The Freedoms Foundation Valley Forge, and the Matthew J. Ryan Foundation. With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Allen authored a number of published works, including "Rethinking Uncle Tom: The Political Philosophy of H.B. Stowe," "The Personal and the Political: Three Fables by Montesquieu" and "The Federalist Papers: A Commentary," and co-authored others, such as "Habits of Mind: Fostering Excellence and Access in Higher Education" with Carol. M. Allen.
For his excellence in the field, Dr. Allen has been notably presented with the Fulbright Advanced Teaching Fellowship and the Booker T. Washington Legacy Award from Heartland Institute. He has additionally accepted honorary doctorates from Averett College and Pepperdine University, and a fellowship from the Kellogg Foundation.
