With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Ms. Porter has found success as an independent genealogist operating out of the Denver, Colorado, region since 1969. In addition to her primary role, she has worked as a staff trainer at the Lakewood Family History Center since 1996. During this time, Ms. Porter excelled as the owner of Stagecoach Library Genealogical Research from 1982 to 2003.
A registered professional genealogist, Ms. Porter has been an active leader in her community. She was previously active as the founder and former president of the West Palm Beach Genealogical Society, the former president and second vice president of the Colorado Genealogical Society, and the former president and staff genealogist of the Foothills Genealogical Society. Likewise, Ms. Porter served as the vice president and the president of the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies.
Ms. Porter has also been affiliated with the Indiana Genealogical Society, the National Genealogical Society, the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies, the Association of Professional Genealogists, and the Association for Gravestone Studies. Moreover, she is a member of the Palatines of America, the Lower Delmarva Genealogical Society, the Baltimore County Genealogical Society, the Shockey Family Memorial Fellowship, and the Wales, Ireland, Scotland, England, Britain Society of Colorado. Ms. Porter had also maintained involvement with the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Indiana Historical Society.
In the past, Ms. Porter served as president of the International Society for British Genealogy and Family History as well as treasurer of the Shockey Family Memorial Fellowship. Notably, she taught beginners genealogy classes in the Denver Library System in Denver, CO, for 40 years. She was Colorado's first certified genealogist from 1969 to 1984.
Throughout her career, Ms. Porter has been celebrated for her contributions. She was presented with a Genie of the Year Award from the Foothills Genealogical Society and lifetime membership with the International Society for British Genealogy and Family History, the Ohio Genealogical Society, the Missouri Genealogical Society, the Maryland Genealogists Society, and the Saint Andrew Society. She received a 2014 Volunteer Award from the Colorado Council of Genealogical Society. Ms. Porter has been further featured in a number of publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
