Mr. Rierson was born, raised, and educated in a small farming community in northwest Iowa. He is the proud father of one child. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, sport shooting, and traveling. Mr. Rierson served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 through 1963. He was honorably discharged after completion of service in September 1963. During his time in service, he received technical aircraft maintenance training at Amarillo AFB, Texas and Kingsley Field AFB, Oregon. Mr. Rierson spent his entire time in service as an Aircraft Mechanic Crew Chief of a Century series fighter/interceptor aircraft.
Mr. Rierson studied Airframe and Powerplant Maintenance at Spartan School of Aeronautics, Tulsa, Oklahoma, receiving an FAA Mechanic, Airframe and Powerplant certificate. He later returned to Spartan School of Aeronautics, studying Aircraft Avionics Maintenance, receiving the FCC Radio Telephone Operator with Radar Endorsement. Mr. Rierson also studied business management through LaSalle Extension University in Chicago, IL.
Mr. Rierson (known as Jim) was active in aviation field maintenance and management, retiring from Bombardier Learjet in 2005. During his years of aircraft maintenance support, he was employed with Boeing Company from 1969-1970 as a Change Incorporated Mechanic on the Boeing 747 aircraft. He was later employed by Beech Aircraft Corporation, in Wichita, Kansas from 1974-1979. During that time Mr. Rierson served as an Experimental Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic. He was later promoted to Military Field Service Technician in the fall of 1974, supporting the U.S. Army Special Mission aircraft until the end of 1979. He then joined the Learjet Corporation as a Field Service Technician serving customers worldwide. During Mr. Rierson's tenure with Learjet he held positions as a Field Service Representative, Supervisor of Technical Support, and Manager of the Technical Service Department. In January of 1984, he was promoted to Regional Manager of the Learjet subsidiary GLASCO, setting up and managing the field operations of the U.S.A.F. C-21A military aircraft at bases located in the United States and overseas.
Mr. Rierson has been a longtime volunteer of the restoration and aircraft maintenance of the second only flying B-29 WWII aircraft known as "DOC" since 2000. He continues support of this aircraft with the nonprofit Doc's Friends Organization as one of the two Aircraft Maintenance Inspectors.
