A visual artist who first worked as a freelance illustrator for Addison-Wesley Publishing Company between 1967 and 1968 and as freelance designer in Los Angeles in 1968, Ms. Yoshimoto excelled as an instructor at Santa Ana College in 1970. She later accepted a position as a studio art instructor at Ventura College, where she remained until 2005. During this time, Ms. Yoshimoto had practiced her own art form and was showcased in art shows both nationally and internationally.
Since 1982, Ms. Yoshimoto has participated in more than 30 group exhibitions, eight two-artist exhibitions and 20 solo exhibitions. She has been represented at such venues as Velvenoir in Salzburg, Austria, Alex Ray Art Advisory in San Francisco, Gallery Rin in Nihonbashi, Tokyo Japan, Bryant Street Gallery in Palo Alto, Calif. and the Artwork Network Gallery in Denver. Ms. Yoshimoto's work has been further included in numerous corporate and private collections across Southern California, Japan and New York.
Throughout her career, Ms. Yoshimoto has served as a visual arts curator for the Ventura Chamber Music Festival and a judge for many art shows across California, including the National Watercolor Society Annual Exhibition in 2003 and the Thousand Oaks Art Association Competition in 2017. She has also lectured at multiple organizations, such as the Museum of Ventura County in 2018 and Simi Valley Primary School in 2018, which focused on the art of Chinese calligraphy and brush works. Ms. Yoshimoto has served on numerous committees as well, including the Ventura Municipal art acquisition committee, the Museum of Ventura County fine arts committee and the Community Memorial Hospital art collection committee.
Ms. Yoshimoto has been a member of the American Federation of Teachers, the Ventura Art Association, the Asian American Women Artists Association, the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum and the Museum of Ventura County, among others. She was also a founder of Studio 83 between 1983 and 1999, an artists' co-op group, and for the Ventura College Friends of the Arts, which served as a non-profit, art scholarship fundraising organization. Honored in 1990 with an Outstanding Faculty Recognition Award from the Ventura College Academic Senate, she has also been presented with multiple art competition awards throughout her career. Likewise, Ms. Yoshimoto has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in the West and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
Ms. Yoshimoto hosted a solo show titled "Biodiversity" at the Gallery Rin in Kyobashi, Tokyo, in January 2019. Also, in January 2019, Ms. Yoshimoto was a member of a group invitational show called "Crosscurrent" at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her upcoming show will be in June 2019 for the invitational cultural exchange exhibition at Yokohama Prefectural Hall. Her Biodiversity Series consists of more than 100 canvases. The series has been shown at the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard, CA in 2012, at the Bryant Street Gallery in Palo Alto, CA in 2014, at SCIART Blackboard Gallery in Camarillo, CA in 2016, and at the Los Angeles Artcore Gallery in 2017.
Born and raised in Japan, Ms. Yoshimoto made her way to Los Angeles in 1958 as a teenager. Studying at the University of California at Los Angeles, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1965 and a Master of Arts in art, summa cum laude, in 1967. She later completed various postgraduate coursework at Mills College, Santa Raparata International Workshop in Florence, Italy, the ArtCenter College of Design., the University of California at Santa Barbara and California State University at Northridge. Ms. Yoshimoto is certified as a teacher in the state of California.
